The Conclave of the Pernicious rumbles on

Hans-Peter Plag

Created on Nov. 08, 2025.

Julian Cribb makes a strong statement in his latest Blog on The black work of Big Oil: “Yes, it’s the Conference of the Parties on Climate Change, also known as COP30, the event where the fossil oligarchs toast their victory over humanity and its future - and the fact they have successfully played the entire world for mugs, hypnotising us into climate paralysis. This time the ‘Conclave of the Pernicious’ was hosted by Brazil.”

The Conference of the Parties (COP) of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) has been conquered by the oligarchs who draw their wealth from imposing the petrochemical industry on us and keeping us enslaved in a suicidal economy depending on burning up the biomass life has turned into fossil fuels over 500 million years.

Cribb makes a strong point that these oligarchs have turned COP30 into a "conclave of the pernicious" where they celebrate the death of 350 million people they will cause by 2050. The author reports that the UN chief Antonio Guterres stated that “Too many corporations are making record profits from climate devastation, with billions spent on lobbying, deceiving the public and obstructing progress.” Reflecting on the politicians in countries like the USA, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Canada, China, India and Australia, who are the enabling the oligarchs in their efforts that cause untold death and destruction, Guterres also said: “Too many leaders remain captive to these entrenched interests. Too many countries are starved of the resources to adapt – and locked out of the clean energy transition. And too many people are losing hope that their leaders will act.”

It is not just the climate change resulting from this fatal industry but also the by production of global pollution. Already today, the result of this economy designed to channel ever growing wealth into the hands of a few oligarchs is causing more than 14 million death a year. This is far more than what the COVID-19 virus could achieve during the worst phase of the pandemic. Fossil fuels are the “black death” of our modern times.

The time has come where standing up against “the pernicious” and ending the deadly use of fossil fuels is a moral obligation.
