A slowly vanishing food security is a major challenge to humanity, and it impacts those at the bottom of our societies most. Our mass food production has severe impacts on the health of the Earth's life-support system and contributes to loss of wildlife and extinction of species. Meeting the goal of the SDG 2 "No Hunger" poses an enormous challenge to all of us. Here we deliberate pathways to a future with food security for all. We also aim to find pathways to food production that improves and enriches the environment instead of depleting and thus contributes to healing the Earth's life-support system.

The future of humanity and the Earth's life-support system depends on us finding ways to feed ourselves without degrading the life-support system on which the welfare of all of us depends. Join us in this fundamentally important task.

[Sep 17, 2026] State of Global Water Resources 2025: The World Meteorological Organization has published the State of Global Water Resource 2025 report. The key messages are:


  • 2025 was one of driest years for river discharge in 35 years
  • Past 7 years have seen abnormal river flows
  • Water storage on Earth’s land surface has decreased in past 10 years
  • Widespread glacier loss across all regions for 4th consecutive year
  • Asia and Africa are the regions most affected by water-related disasters
  • Water data availability has improved, but gaps remain in hard hit areas

“Rivers across the globe in 2025 had one of the driest years in more than three decades. The WMO State of Global Water Resources Report shows a continuation of the long-term decline in Earth’s freshwater storage and in glacier retreat.

The water cycle has also become more erratic and unpredictable, swinging between too little or too much. The past seven years have seen the fewest rivers with “normal” flows since 1991.”

[Aug 03, 2026] Alliance of World Scientists Declares Planetary Emergency: In the paper “ World scientists’ warning to humanity: a third notice” the Alliance of World Scientists includes the “Declaration of a planetary emergency.” The declaration states: “We, the undersigned, recognize that Earth is now in a state of planetary emergency. Climate change, biodiversity loss, land and freshwater degradation, pollution, and unsustainable production and consumption are destabilizing the Earth system that supports all life.”

[Aug 03, 2026] Hothouse Earth: arriving sooner than you think…: Julian Cribb writes in his latest blog: “Latest measurements, carefully analysed to exclude anomalies such as El Nino, reveal a planet cooking up at a steady 0.48 degrees per decade since 2015, in what is thought to be the most rapid heating event in all its geological history.” We are experiencing the most rapid heating event in Earth's billions of years long history! We have caused this event with a few hundred years of sole focus on unlimited growth using all the ancient solar energy accumulated by Earth's biosphere over more than 250 million years - just because we could! That is something to reflect on!
