The spectrum of possible futures for Grenada is dominated by the triple challenge of a changed and changing climate, the loss of wildlife and biodiversity, and pollution from local to global scales. All Small Island Developing States (SIDS) are faced with finding and implementing pathways to ensure that they are prepared for the uncertain and challenging future they face. Grenada is no exception. In this VCC, we aim to convene stakeholders in a participatory efforts to develop transformative pathways that can prepare the country for the broad spectrum of possible futures. These pathways will aim at tackling the complex triple challenge in a social-ecological and economical approach that is ethically acceptable.

[Aug. 01, 2024] Exclusion of Environmental Groups from Governmental Events: Recently, several environmental groups in Grenada and other Caribbean islands have been excluded from important governmental workshops and conferences focusing on environmental challenges. A summary of some of these exclusions is available at Petcharys Blog. Participatory approaches require that all parts of society can participate. Claiming participatory cannot be tokenism.

[Oct. 10, 2025] Grenada to consider allowing US to set up radar facilities: In Caribbean Life, Bert Wilkenson reports briefly in an article that Grenada’s government is considering an American request to establish radar facilities at the island’s main airport. In a statement, the government wrote that “The ministries of national security, legal affairs, and foreign affairs are carefully assessing the request and reviewing the request in technical consultations, in coordination with the Grenada airports authority and other relevant agencies.” It seems like the people of Grenada won't have a voice in this extremely important decision. [Jul. 25, 2025] Caribbean leaders welcome ICJ climate ruling as historic win for small island states: Natricia Duncan reports in an article in the Guardian that several leaders of Caribbean Small Island States welcomed the ruling of the International Court of Justice on the obligation of states to protect the climate. In an landmark opinion published on Wednesday, the ICJ stated that countries must prevent harm to the climate system and that failing to do so could result in them having to pay compensation and make other forms of restitution. The Caribbean leaders see the ruling as strengthening of their negotiating power when it comes to climate change reparations
