Session 3 Apr. 22, 2024 10:00 - 11:00 Chair(s): Barry Clemson | Shared Understanding: Climate and Environmental Justice in Hampton RoadsThe goal is to check our reality as it relates to climate and environmental justice today and tomorrow in our area. Reality Check: Environmental and Climate Justice in HR today and tomorrow. One characteristics of wicked problems is that stakeholders don't have a shared understanding of the current situation and a shared understanding of what the problem/challenge actually is. That is why the first step in any Participatory Modeling (PM) is to check what the perception of our reality is between the different participants.
We will work in a few small groups of three or four, each drawing sketches illustrating our view on climate and environmental justice in HR. |
Session 4 Apr. 22, 2024 11:15 - 12:15 Chair(s): Hans-Peter Plag | Joint assessment of our RealityBased on the previous session, we will try to get a shared understanding of what our situation today is and tomorrow will be concerning climate and environmental justice. |
Session 5 Apr. 22, 2024 13:00 - 14:00 Chair(s): Barry Clemson | Inter-generational Justice and a Timeline for Hampton RoadsWe want to look at the spectrum of possible futures and think about inter-generational justice related to climate and environment. What is the possible timeline for Hampton Roads and where do we want to see HR in 2030, 2050, 2100? The focus should be on challenges to environmental and climate justice for future generations. We should, however not ignore the present unequal distribution of justice in space and think about how this unequal distribution might be amplified or reduced over time.
We will work again in small groups of three or four, each drawing sketches to illustrate the futures. |
Session 6 Apr. 22, 2024 14:00 - 15:00 Chair(s): Hans-Peter Plag | A common vision for a just community in HR Based on the previous session we will try to formulate a vision for our community in Hampton Roads where climate and environmental justice is no longer a nice concept but a reality. |
Session 7 Apr. 22, 2024 15:00 - 15:30 | Summary We will summarize the challenges we see for climate and environmental justice, give an overview of the relevant stakeholders, express the vision we talked about, identify goals for the next years, and propose specific projects.

Session 8 Apr. 22, 2024 15:40 - 16:00 | Place4Us and the Hampton Roads VCCWe will briefly introduce the Earth Viability Center and our main current activity: Place4Us is a virtual collaboration platform that hosts Virtual Community Centers (VCCs). The Communities of Practice (CoPs) in these VCCs can work virtually in many ways and collaborate with other VCCs in groups or clusters. By sharing resources between the VCCs all benefit from being on Place4Us and are visible to others in a global ecosystem of VCCs. |

We propose that much of the work is carried out in the Hampton Roads VCC on Place4Us. |
