Welcome to the Hampton Roads Environment and People VCC. The main mission of our community is to utilize virtual tools to better engage with all societal stakeholders in Hampton Roads and to have a broad dialog about the future we want for Hampton Roads.

[Sep. 15, 2025] Solar Schools: What’s Possible?: Third Act Tidewater and Partners Sierra Club, Environment VA, Chesapeake Climate Action Network, and VA League of Conservation Voters are promoting Solar Schools in Hampton Roads. The Event takes place on Saturday, October 18, 2025, 10:30 - 12:00, at Norfolk Academy. During the interactive event, tour the solar installation, listen to speakers and ask questions. The 2025 sessions for Measure the Muck have been announced. The dates are September 13 and October 11, 2025. See the announcement with a link for registration. Volunteers are needed!

[Jun. 13, 2025] Every Day is NO KINGS DAY: On Saturday, June 14, 2025 there were three "No Kings Day" actions in Hampton Roads. But that day was not THE No Kings Day. Actions go on because every day must be a No Kings Day!

The richest 10% of the global population own close to three-quarters of all wealth, while the poorest half hold barely 2%. Fewer than 60,000 multi-millionaires now control three times more wealth than half of humanity combined." From the World Inequality Report 2026. In this world of growing inequality, the global population appears to be dominate and exploited by the few super wealthy.

[Jan. 28, 2026] It may not be too late to fix the Web: The article titled “ ‘It’s not too late to fix it’: internet inventor Tim Berners-Lee says he is in a ‘battle for the soul of the web’” by Daisy Dumas published in The Guardian states that the founder of the world wide web says the commercialisation of the Web has been ‘optimised for nastiness’. But Breners-Lee believes that collaboration and compassion can prevail. This is what Place4Us is all about.

[Jan. 09, 2026] Ocean Heat Content Sets Another Record in 2025: The analysis published in Advances in Atmospheric Sciences reveals that global ocean warming continued unabated in 2025 in response to increased greenhouse gas concentrations and recent reductions in sulfate aerosols. In the article by Damian Carrington published in The Guardian, John Abraham, a member of the analysis team, is quoted: “Global warming is ocean warming. If you want to know how much the Earth has warmed or how fast we will warm into the future, the answer is in the oceans.”
