Globally, reaching the Target 6.1 “Universal and equitable access to safe and affordable drinking water for all” of SDG 6 requires a sixfold increase of the current rate of progress. In Latin America and the Caribbean, 33 million people (5.2% of the total population) are in multidimensional poverty with key overlapping deprivations relating to education, housing, and water. The lack of high quality tap water supply has a major impact on the use of bottled water. This has resulted in a rapid increase in plastic waste, which challenges the waste management systems in many Small Island States in the Caribbean.

The water contained in the atmosphere as water vapor provides a unique and sustainable source of clean water for all. The air to water technology has evolved rapidly over the last decade. There is now a wide range of atmospheric water generators (AWGs) that can be used to provide access to clean potable water where it is needed. The energy requirements for AWGs can easily be met by solar energy.

We aim to promote AWGs as a sustainable, resilient and climate safe contribution to tackling the challenge of ensuring access to affordable clean drinking water. We work on programs that enable all, including those impacted by poverty, to improve their access to clean drinking water.
